SANDY’S STORY:
Where it all started
Sandy is a passionate advocate for health and fitness, with roots deeply embedded in the wholesome environment of a family farm. Sandy was raised amidst the nurturing embrace of nature, surrounded by cows, pigs, and chickens. The farm became a haven for organic farming, cultivating a garden teeming with nutritious fruits and vegetables. She was shielded from the allure of processed snacks and sugary drinks thanks to her parents' unwavering commitment to a healthy lifestyle.
Sandy attributes her robust health and vitality to the upbringing received from her parents. Their insistence on maintaining a household filled with nourishing foods laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to well-being.
The farm life instilled invaluable lessons in work ethic in by since hours were spent tending to animals, clearing fields, and cultivating crops like alfalfa for the livestock. Enduring the challenges of being chased by chickens, kicked by a cow, and even being bucked off her horse being left walking home, only to find the companion calmly grazing in the pasture. Sandy emerged resilient, learning the true meaning of hard work.
The gift of growing up on the family farm is one that Sandy will forever treasure. It not only imparted practical skills but also fostered a deep appreciation for a healthy lifestyle and a strong work ethic.
Fitness Interest:
My fitness interest started when I was a skinny young girl learning gymnastics with my dad. With his encouragement I began gymnastics lessons and landed a spot on my high school team. After graduating I missed the strength and conditioning exercises and the physical challenge. I had a passion to stay physically fit, so at the age 18 I joined the local gym and stayed active by attending aerobic classes regularly for 20 years. At the age of 38, I was thin but not firm, and I wanted to have more definition and muscle tone. In a quest to reach my fitness goals I entered the Body for Life Challenge. At that point I added intense weight lifting to my workout regimen and within 3 months my body became stronger, leaner, and sculpted. It was a fantastic, motivating, challenging journey, which changed my life. After training for a year and a half and seeing all the amazing results I was inspired to enter a competition. At this time the popular Figure Division was not introduced, so I competed in bodybuilding and won runner at the age of 39. Later that year I won Overall in Utah Women’s Bodybuilding. I was extremely happy when the Figure Division was introduced in 2001. I could now wear a rhinestone suit and heels; this was right up my alley. I competed for 2 years in figure but was always awarded runner up. I wanted that 1st place trophy.
When you face adversity, take the time to go back to the drawing board.
After 4 competitions I found I had to push myself even harder. I spent endless hours posing, working on new training techniques, tweaking nutrition, and getting the perfect competition suit. I found the formula for success, and at the age of 42 I won my height class, Masters, and Overall at the 2003 NPC Utah Cup Figure Competition. What an amazing experience to win Overall at the age of 42; winning over other beautiful women from ages 20 and up. I continued on my journey in 2004 when I entered the NPC Figure Master Nationals in Pittsburg, taking 3rd place. During this time I was featured in magazines such as Muscle Mag and Oxygen. This same year I also went through a devastating divorce that put my competitions on hold for 6 years.
A big part of my success in the fitness world came through self-improvement courses, educational, retreats, and hypnosis. Through all my education I realized changing my life first requires changing my mind. I have been studying personal development, fitness, and nutrition ever since.
Coming Back Strong
My fitness journey started during my youth, where, as a slender girl, I delved into the world of gymnastics alongside my father's unwavering support. Encouraged by him, I embarked on gymnastics lessons and secured a coveted spot on my high school team. Post-graduation, I found myself yearning for the invigorating strength and conditioning exercises that had become a part of my routine. Fueled by a passionate desire to maintain physical fitness, I eagerly joined the local gym at the age of 18, faithfully attending aerobic classes for two decades.
At the age of 38, although slender, I sought more definition and muscle tone. In pursuit of my fitness goals, I embraced the Body for Life Challenge, introducing intense weightlifting into my regimen. Remarkably, within three months, my body transformed—gaining strength, achieving leanness, and sculpting itself. This transformative journey became a source of inspiration, motivation, and a profound life change.
After a year and a half of dedicated training and witnessing remarkable results, I felt compelled to test my mettle in a competition. At 39, I entered the world of bodybuilding, securing the runner-up position, and later clinched the Overall title at the Utah Women’s Bodybuilding competition. The advent of the Figure Division in 2001 was a game-changer, allowing me to showcase my physique in a more feminine approach, wearing rhinestone suits and heels. Despite securing the runner-up position in two years of figure competitions, my heart yearned for the coveted first-place trophy.
In the face of adversity, I returned to the drawing board.
Following four competitions, I realized the need to elevate my efforts. Tirelessly dedicating hours to perfecting my posing, exploring new training techniques, fine-tuning nutrition, and selecting the ideal competition suit, I uncovered the formula for success. At the age of 42, I triumphed in my height class, Masters, and Overall at the 2003 NPC Utah Cup Figure Competition—an extraordinary feat against competitors spanning ages 20 and beyond.
My journey continued at the age of 43, where I secured 3rd place at the NPC Figure Master Nationals. Despite the accolades, a challenging divorce put my competitions on hold for six years. Amidst these trials, self-improvement courses, education, retreats, and hypnosis played a pivotal role in my success. Through continuous learning in personal development, fitness, and nutrition, I realized that transforming my life necessitated a change in mindset—an insight that continues to guide my journey of self-discovery and growth.
Upon reaching the milestone of 55, a desire to embrace one final competition stirred within me. While I no longer possessed the muscle mass for the figure division, I envisioned the bikini category as a delightful avenue for my last hurrah in the competitive realm.
Taking the stage for this ultimate performance was a moment of profound gratitude. Surrounded by friends, I relished the opportunity to explore the potential of my physique and savor the joy of the experience.
